I think I'm ready to journey outside the office without my laptop now. I have solved for a lot of what I need to do with my app recipe on this iPad. Here are my latest changes, additions and recommendations:
I will start with mentioning that I am really impressed with the capabilities of DocsToGo. I guess I wasn't sure what to expect, but it offers more than I realized. You can create and edit Excel, Word and PowerPoint. I can even run a PPT presentation with it. It also provides a file sync process, so you can seamlessly share files from other machines with your laptop. However, I already use DropBox for this, and that is great solution too. In my family, we share DropBox folders for family pictures, and their UI for this is very simple.
I am also very pleased with SharePlusPro, my app for Sharepoint. It was easy to set up and it's just as easy to use.
I just added Save2PDF ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/save2pdf-for-ipad/id399758218?mt=8 ). With this app, I can create my PDF files from my Word or Excel documents. The other day I opened a Word doc from SharePlus. I edited that document, saved it to a PDF and emailed it to a contact all from the iPad. Very cool!
I also added the Skype app. Once again, I have the first iPad version, so I cannot do the calls or video chat. But having IM is critical.
While I have focused a lot on the business apps, I have to mention a really cool personal app. It's called Flipboard ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flipboard/id358801284?mt=8 ). With this app, you can subscribe to your favorite news sources, but it also creates a fantastic UI for reading your social updates on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.
The next big thing on my agenda is implementing the dashboard capability with CWR Mobility. I will have that running soon and I'm really excited about this. Stay tuned…
