Adding Languages to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011

Adding Languages to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011

Microsoft Dynamics CRM currently supports 41 Languages (listed below). More and more of our clients are looking to add a 2nd or 3rd language to help give their users a better experience with CRM by allowing them to interact in their native language. Adding new languages and updating the custom fields/records that are added to CRM is straight forward to do (as long as you are a good translator!).

Here is a "How To" blog to step you through the process.

There are 2 key areas to cover for adding a new language into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011. You will want to:

  • Add the Language to CRM – all of the Out of the Box Record Types and Fields have already been translated
  • Update any Custom Record Types or Fields – there is an Export/Import process that you can follow to update custom fields/records

Adding a New Language to CRM

  • Go to Settings -> Administration -> Languages

  • Select the Language(s) that you would like to add

Updating Custom Fields/Records with the New Language

  • Go to Settings -> Customizations -> Customize the System

  • Click on "Export Translations"

  • Click "OK"

  • Use "Save As" to Save the Zip File to your Desktop

  • Right Click on the Zip File and Select "Extract All…"

  • Open the Extracted Folder and Cut and Paste the 2 files out of it and onto your Desktop

  • Open the "CRMTranslations" file and click on the "Localized Labels"

  • Update Column E with all the new language translations. In this example, I updated "Budget" in Spanish to "Presupuesto"

NOTE: If any fields in "Column D" are blank, add in a Label. I found about 9 instances that were all related to Activity Feeds so I typed into each Field "Activity Feed".

  • Save your file and make sure to keep it the same name "CRMTranslations" (overwrite your original file). Highlight both files (Content Types) and CRMTranslations, Right Click and "Send to Compressed (zipped) folder". You can call it "New Language Translations".

  • Import "New LanguageTranslations" by selecting the Zip File that you just created

  • Once the File has successfully Imported "Publish All Customizations"

  • Check out your new Labels in the Language that you just updated!
