What is Instrument Calibration?
Certain test instruments that are used during quality control processes need to be regularly calibrated. Calibration is the process of evaluating and adjusting the precision and accuracy of measurement equipment and is usually defined as a performance comparison against a standard of known accuracy. Proper calibration of an instrument allows people to have a safe working environment, produces valid data for future reference and is extremely important to ensure quality of the products being consumed as well as those that are being produced. Instruments that are not calibrated regularly can result in product which has incorrectly passed or failed quality control tests, thereby increasing the risk of costly recalls.
The Instrument Calibration feature in EDGE for AX offers enhanced quality management capability by providing robust functionality around test instrument tracking and calibration. This new feature adds capability around tracking individual test instrument tags, supports an on-going calibration process for the instrument tag and tracks usage of given tags against the quality orders tests.
Who is it for?
This feature can benefit any customer who needs to perform quality testing with calibrated instruments. This feature is particularly critical in most regulated industries and process-related manufacturers especially those in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, agricultural and chemical industries.
How is it used in a business sense?
Tracks additional details against the test instrument tag numbers such as manufacturer information and calibration requirements.
Supports a calibration process for test instruments which can be manually triggered or based on usage or periodically, based on a schedule. All details of the calibration can be recorded/tracked and optionally electronic signature controlled.
Associates test instruments to quality order result test lines and automatically assigns a tag number if desired.
Provides a periodic utility to automatically create calibration records based on usage and/or schedule.
Supports calibration reporting such as calibration certificates, calibration schedule reports and calibration labels.
Why is it important?
Test instrument calibration functionality can help process manufacturers achieve
- More accurate quality testing and subsequently better quality products
- Less redundant and destructive testing
- Less recalls
- Better customer service
- Cost reductions
- Reduced material handling
- Faster material throughput
- Integrated LIMS capability in Dynamics AX
